Following the announcement on the 4th of January 2021 that non-essential businesses will need to close until further notice, the government is making available a further wave of grant money in order to support those businesses who occupy rateable premises.
The new grants are soon to be available via the website of your local authority much as the first wave of grants in 2020, and are structured as follows:
- Businesses with a rateable value of under £15,000 will be eligible for a £4,000 grant
- Businesses with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000 will be eligible for a £6,000 grant
- Businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000 will be eligible for a £9,000 grant
The grants will be delivered only to businesses that have been forced to close as a result of the new lockdown restrictions that the government has imposed in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, primarily businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.
For wet-led pubs, that is pubs whose majority income is derived from the sale of alcohol rather than food, there is also a one-off £1,000 grant available via their local authority. Details of this can be found on your local council’s website.
